Projecting current demographic trends into the not-too-distant future, San Francisco is almost entirely upper economic class. The working class has been pushed off the peninsula entirely. But the city still has blue-collar jobs to fill – running the infrastructure, service industries, etc. A program is created to ‘re-migrate’ working class families back to the city from where they have settled inland. Our story follows one such family on their first day back in San Francisco, and ends with their decision to stay or leave.
Barry is best known for his breakout hit Medicine for Melancholy, and was recently featured in San Francisco’s 7×7 Magazine. The film stars Russell Hornsby (fresh from Broadway’s Fences with Denzel Washington) and Rick Yune (Snow Falling on Cedars, Die Another Day). Remigration is also a re-teaming of Barry Jenkins and cinematographer James Laxton, whose photography on Medicine for Melancholy received broad acclaim.
