Nothing Shows is steeped in the poems of Philip Larkin – the EP’s title comes from Larkin’s collected works – and examines some of the poet's most common themes, like the passion of youth, the cynicism of disappointment, and the balance of idealism versus reality. The songs share a cinematic feel and explore a range of sounds: whether the heartfelt, anthemic build that closes the hopeful title track; the exuberant, 20-person chorus sing-along of standout “Say La La;” the gentle, strings-heavy and lovelorn “Michel Bizot” (featuring Madi Diaz, watch the video here); or the urgent, dance-y palpitations of a bike ride through a Nashville night’s hot summer rain on “Hearts Beat Loud.”

"Musically, this is one of the best indie-folk albums since Balmorhea’s Constellations or A.A. Bondy’s When The Devil’s Loose. Aside from the beautiful piano melodies, the orchestral arrangement provides listeners with an excellent backdrop to DeWitt’s Costello-like vocals. On “Michael Bizot,” DeWitt is joined by the Nashville-based singer/songwriter Madi Diaz to complete what is a near-perfect ballad. After hearing it, you think surely someone in Hollywood will pick this song for a montage scene in which a movie character is afraid of losing the love of their life. " - RED RIVER NOISE
"What really shines on this album is the delicate yet progressive “Tired Of Love.” He plays this song like it’s a realization. And it’s one of the better songs about the feelings of love and the edginess of it all. The string accompaniment doesn’t hurt whatsoever." - Zaptown
